5 things to consider when choosing the type of flooring to install

Choosing the type of floors can be a challenge but here are a few factors to keep in mind:

1️⃣ Your lifestyle.

Are you a shoes-in-the-house type of person? Do you have kids? What about pets? Your lifestyle has a big impact on which floors would be the best fit for your home.

2️⃣ Your subfloor.

The type of subflooring you have — whether it’s concrete or wood, for instance — plays a part in the type of flooring you should choose. Your choice should work alongside your subfloor to ensure everything lasts as long as possible.

3️⃣ The room.

Certain rooms require certain types of floors such as a bathroom. Although there was a time where carpet was installed in bathrooms, we now know that it leads to bacteria and mould growth. In essence, the room you’re installing in is a major factor when choosing the type of flooring you should install.

4️⃣ Resale value.

Resale value is always a factor in choosing the design of your home. Like fashion, flooring types go in and out of style. In addition, certain flooring types may be considered more luxurious or of a higher quality than other types, which could impact how your home is valued.

5️⃣ Pollutants, allergens, and toxins.

Certain floors can trap pollutants or trigger allergies. For instance, dust, hair, and more can get stuck in carpets, especially fluffier ones. Additionally, toxic properties, like VOCs (volatile organic compounds) or phthalates, could be found in products from unregulated sources.
